SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Fiesta Bowl today announced that Stephanie Jarvis has been hired to fill the newly created position of Chief Compliance Officer/General Counsel.

Jarvis comes to the Fiesta Bowl from the Horizon League, where she served as Associate Commissioner/General Counsel.

Jarvis had a wide range of responsibilities during her 12-year tenure at the Indianapolis-based conference. Among her duties, Jarvis amended and revised corporate bylaws, regulations and articles of incorporation in order to maintain the league’s non-profit status; negotiated league television contracts; helped member institutions understand and comply with NCAA bylaws; and worked with schools on Title IX and gender equity issues to ensure compliance with federal laws.

Jarvis’ experience in intercollegiate athletics is a strong fit with the Fiesta Bowl, which created the position of Chief Compliance Officer/General Counsel as part of a restructuring. Jarvis will manage all of the Fiesta Bowl organization’s legal work, including contract negotiations and compliance with BCS, NCAA and governmental regulations.

“We are delighted to have Stephanie join our staff,” Fiesta Bowl Executive Director Robert Shelton said. “The depth and breadth of her experience, along with her many contacts in intercollegiate athletics, makes her the ideal person to fill this critically important position in our governance structure.”

A native Ohioan, Jarvis graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in French Language and Literature and earned her law degree from University of Cincinnati College of Law.

“I am looking forward to joining the Fiesta Bowl and helping the organization as it works toward becoming a model non-profit,” Jarvis said.

Horizon League Commissioner Jon LeCrone wished Jarvis well in her new role. “She will bring expertise, a commitment to the values of higher education and leadership skills to Phoenix,” LeCrone said.  “Her selection speaks volumes about a job well done in the Horizon League."
