GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Girls Got Game/NFCA Academic Awards Program named five Phoenix softball players to its Scholar-Athlete list for the 2007-08 academic year. Each player recorded a 3.5 grade-point average or better in both the fall and spring semesters.

Of the five players honored, Anna Bluemel and Dana Brockman both have graduated after stellar careers with the Phoenix. Bluemel, a pitcher, compiled a 9-12 record while posting a 3.25 earned run average on the year. Brockman was second on the team in hitting with a .282 average with a home run and eight runs batted in. Both players leave the Phoenix after receiving their degrees.

Mollie Kaebisch, Melani Niederer, and Leah Korger were also honored for their academic performance. Kaebisch, who was the only Phoenix to start every game, batted .270 with two home runs and 13 runs batted in on the year. Niederer scored 17 runs, which proved to be second on the team, and hit .220 for Green Bay. Korger batted .182 and was a utility player for the Phoenix.

In addition to being honored by the Girls Got Game/NFCA Academic Awards Program, each player was named to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Dean's List and the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll for the spring 2008 semester.
