INDIANAPOLIS – UIC freshmen Pat Niyork (Villa Park, Ill.) and Emma Preston (East Peoria, Ill.) have been named the Horizon League Runners of the Week for Oct. 2-8.

Both runners competed in the Lucian Rosa Invitational, hosted by UW-Parkside in Kenosha, Wis., where the Horizon League Championships will be held later this month.

Niyork paced the men’s squad with a 26:08.00 result that earned the freshman a 35th-place finish in a field of over 100 runners. It was Niyork’s third-straight race leading the Flames, who finished 10th as a team.

In the women’s 5K, Preston finished seventh out of 119 competitors with an 18:25.50 result. It was also Preston’s third time pacing the Flames this season. UIC finished fourth out of 18 teams in the women’s race.

Both Niyork and Preston will return to action on Friday, Oct. 12, when the Flames compete in the Bradley Classic.
