Four Horizon League Golfers Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars

The Horizon League had four men’s golfers honored as Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced on Wednesday.

Detroit’s Simon Reyers, Valparaiso’s Brad Winters, Youngstown State’s Anthony Conn and Butler’s Andrew Wegeng were the Horizon League representatives on the list of 147 total players in Division I golf.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Reyers, who is entering his senior year at Detroit, has a 3.30 GPA in business administration. This past season, he was second on the team – by just one shot - with a 74.3 average. He totaled five top-20 efforts and three top-10 finishes, and was the team leader in five events, including a career-best 214 (72, 73, 69) for 10th at the NYX Hoosier Invitational.

Winters, a fifth-year senior to be for the Crusaders, averaged 75.83 over 24 rounds for Valparaiso last season, second best on the team.  He carded a season-low round of 70, and turned in a pair of top-10 finishes on the year.

Conn, a senior in 2011-12, finished 11th at the 2012 Horizon League Championship to pace the Penguins. He averaged a team-best 75.2 strokes per round this past year.

Wegeng, who will be a senior next year for Butler, paced the Bulldogs with a 75.8 average in the 2011-12 season as he played in every tournament for BU.
