CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Women's golf players Clare Cornelius and Molly Fields from Butler and Youngstown State's Brittany Stillwagon and Samantha Formeck were named All-American scholar recipients by the National Golf Coaches Association.
Stillwagon is a junior electrical engineering major from Bloomingdale, Ohio, while Formeck is a chemistry (pre-pharmacy) major from Northern Cambria, Pa. The two standouts led Youngstown State to the team title at the 2009 Horizon League Women's Golf Championship in April.
Formeck claimed the league's player and newcomer of the year awards, and won medalist honors at the championship.
Cornelius is a freshman pharmacy major from Indianapolis and Fields is a sophomore business major from Anderson, Ind.
The National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Teams for Division I, II & III included 410 women's collegiate players. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II & III) of the college's regularly-scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
