INDIANAPOLIS – Cleveland State’s Rob Fox is the Male Scholar-Athlete of the month and Youngstown State’s Alisha Anthony is the Women’s Scholar-Athlete for the month of April.
Fox, a senior from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, helped the Vikings to it’s fourth straight Horizon League Men’s Tennis Championship title and NCAA bid. He was awarded First-Team All-League honors and set a school record with 28 doubles wins with teammate John Haley. In the month of April he went 5-1 in singles and 6-1 in doubles play.
A marketing, management and labor relations major, Fox earned a 3.9 Grade Point Average. He earned Cleveland State’s Academic Excellance Award for the third-consecutive year and was nominated for the Capital One Academic All-American honors through CoSIDA. He also won the Herb Foster sportsmanship Award which recognizes student-athletes who display admirable conduct both on and off the court.
Anthony, a senior from Van Wert, Ohio and two-time Horizon League Field Athlete of the Week, helped Youngstown State’s women’s track & field team finish runner-up at the 2011 Horizon League Track & Field Championships. In the month of April, she won the long jump and triple jump events at the All-Ohio Championships and also placed fourth in both events at the prestigous Penn Relays. At the Duke Invitational she won the long jump, recording a leap of 5.75 meters and took fourth-place in the triple jump.
A communications major, Anthony holds a 3.8 GPA. She was named to the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Horizon League Academic All-League team for Indoor Track & Field and to the 2009 and 2011 Horizon League Academic All-League team for Outdoor Track & Field.
The Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Month recognizes outstanding academic and athletic achievements. To be eligible for the honor, the student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and perform well during the month’s competition. Winners are selected by the League’s faculty athletics representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
