Chicago, Ill. - The College Baseball Foundation announced on Tuesday morning, that University of Illinois at Chicago freshman first baseman Mark Hallberg (Barron, Wis./Barron) has been named to the National Honor Roll for the period ending May 8th.

The College Baseball Foundation is dedicated to preserving college baseball history and to recognizing standout teams and individuals who have influenced the collegiate game.

Hallberg helped UIC to five victories last week, batting .435 (10-for-23) with seven runs scored, five RBI and a homer, while extending his team-season best hitting streak to 18-games. His most impressive performance came in Sunday's 10-8, extra-inning victory over Cleveland State, going 3-for-6 at the plate, with three runs scored and a RBI.

For the season, Hallberg leads the Flames in batting average (.365), runs (44), hits (66) and doubles (14). In Horizon League play, Hallberg is batting .333 while leading the squad in runs (17), hits (21) and doubles (4).

Hallberg is the third UIC player this season to be named to the College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll, joining junior catcher Bryan Nolte and sophomore pitcher Ryan Zink.

UIC (29-17-1, 10-6 Horizon League) will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon, as they will travel to Evanston, Ill., to square off with Northwestern at 3:00 p.m.
