No. 4 Loyola advanced into the second round of the loser's bracket with a 5-2 triumph over No. 8 Youngstown State on Friday at a wet Ashwaubenon Sports Complex in Green Bay, Wis. The contest was halted twice due to poor playing conditions.
The Penguins took an early 1-0 lead in the second on a Becky Hibner RBI-single, but the Ramblers knotted the game at 1-1 in the fourth on a Raven Gengler RBI-single down the left-field line. After YSU added a run in the fifth, Loyola scored four runs in the bottom half, including a Lindsay O'Gean two-RBU double to left field to push the Rambler lead to 5-2.
Mia Pangere (8-13) shutout the Penguins in the next two frames to pick up the win after giving up only four hits and striking out one YSU batter in seven innings of work.
Loyola was led at the plate by Nora Schober who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
