Hearing from student-athletes around the Horizon League gives such a different outlook on sports as a whole. Finding out where they like to eat, what they do in their free time, and getting their thoughts on wins and losses are aspects of the student-athlete experience that we don't always get to read about. The HLN Blog has definitely given us a peek into some of these things...but there's even more out there if you're willing to look for it. Luckily, we've done some digging for you.

Many Horizon League schools have their own student-athlete blogs on their official athletics websites, and I've found a few interesting ones from this past week that are definitely worth sharing. These blogs, and the HLN Blog, provide a great opportunity to find out more about an athlete, a school, a team, or in some cases...a favorite Premier League Team.

This week, I'm recommending a few...

  • From Butler, check out the Volleyball Blog. Find out how the Bulldogs spent their time during homecoming week and how they're prepping for a rematch with Valpo in a few weeks.
  • In Detroit, the Women's Golf team wrapped up their fall play this past weekend. Look here to see how they fared in their last tournament in Akron, OH...but more importantly, to me, where they ate.
  • Finally, find out who Nicholas Gerard-Larson's favorite Premier League Team is and his take on how soccer is gaining popularity in the U.S. in his entry on the Milwaukee Soccer Blog.

I'll keep scouring the school sites for more, and I'll keep you updated on all the important stuff from the athletes...like the food, the fun, and maybe even a few scores.

Until next time...
