Milwaukee, Wis. - The American Baseball Coaches Association released its 2006 ABCA/Rawlings All-America Baseball Teams on Monday with UW-Milwaukee senior Mike Goetz, named as a member of the first team.
The award caps a phenomenal season that Goetz finished up last month, where he continues to lead the nation in hitting with his .493 batting average and in on-base percentage. He concluded the year with UWM season records in batting average, on-base percentage (.579), hits (111), doubles (23), triples (6-tie), total bases (155) and walks (41-tie). He was the only Mideast All-Region Team representative, which was named June 13, to make the first team.
This is the second All-America team that Goetz has been selected for this spring. In early June he was named a second team member of the Louisville Slugger All-America team, announced by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. He is the first All-American in team history.
The ABCA All-America Teams are collegiate baseball's oldest selections, dating to 1949. All Division I coaches have the opportunity to nominate and vote on these selections, which are initially compiled into eight All-Region teams. These teams are then finalized as the first, second and third All-America teams by the ABCA's NCAA Division I All-America and Coach of the Year Committee.
