Indianapolis -- Horizon League Senior Associate Commissioner and Chief of Staff Alfreeda Goff has been honored by Diverse magazine in its February issue.

In an article titled, “The Shoulders On Which We Stand,” Goff is recognized as one of “the most highly respected women in intercollegiate athletics” and for her long-time role as a pioneer, leader and mentor for women and minorities seeking opportunities and advancement.

“The article underscores what those of us in the Horizon League have known for a long, long time,” said Commissioner Jon LeCrone. “Alfreeda’s passion for her job, the advice and counsel she welcomingly provides to young people and her gentle-but-firm manner in dealing with multiple constituencies make her absolutely deserving of this recognition.”

Goff, who is in her 15th year with the Horizon League, is cited for her many roles and responsibilities with the League, the NCAA and in overall athletics administration.

Dr. Denisha Hendricks, athletic director at Kentucky State University, says in the article, “As a young minority woman in athletic administration, I certainly know that I stand on Ms. Goff’s shoulders. I often refer back to her career pattern and NCAA service to help guide my own. And I am not  alone in doing this. We all look up to her, from near and afar.”

Goff is joined by 10 others recognized in the article, including one former and five current university presidents.
