Men's Golf Athlete of the Week

Loyola senior Keith Nelson is the Horizon League Men's Golf Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 16.

 

Nelson averaged a 75.8 over five rounds at a pair of tournaments for Loyola last week. He placed tied for 28th overall with a 230 (76-76-78) at the Grover Page Classic in Tennessee, March 6-8, then cracked the top 10 with a 149 (76-73) at the Ft. Lauderdale Spring Classic (March 10-11). He leads Loyola with a 75.8 average in 17 rounds this season.

 

 

Women's Golf Athlete of the Week

Loyola, Senior, Prospect Heights, Ill.

 

Loyola senior Nicole Puch is the Horizon League Women's Golf Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 16.

 

Puch carded a 155 (76-79) to finish tied for 11th out of 110 players at the Springlake Intercollegiate, March 11-12. The senior helped the Ramblers set a 36-hole school scoring record and tie a school mark for 18-hole team score as well. She then went on to lead Loyola with a 164 (83-81) at the North/South Intercollegiate to finish the week with a 79.8 average.

 

 

Other Top Male Performers - March 16

 

Mark Sommerfeld, Detroit, Freshman (Waterloo, Ont.)

Sommerfeld was Detroit's top finisher at the Titans' first tournament of the spring, the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, SC. Sommerfeld carded rounds of 75 and 77, and his 152 total for 36 holes earned him a share of 24th place in a field that contained only one other northern school.

 

 

Other Top Female Performers - March 16

 

Mandi Dupuis, Detroit, Freshman (Tecumseh, Ont.)

Dupuis was Detroit's top individual finisher at the Springlake Invitational, the Titans' first tournament of the spring. Dupuis shot rounds of 79 and 78 in the 36-hole event hosted by Northern Illinois, and her 157 total was good for a share of 22nd in the 110-player field.
