Men's Golf Athlete of the Week





MARK SOMMERFELD

Detroit freshman Mark Sommerfeld is the Horizon League Men's Golf Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 23.





Sommerfeld came in second individually at the Butler Invitational, leading Detroit to a runner-up team finish. Sommerfeld opened the event with a two-under-par 70, and his 147 total for two days missed the individual medal by just one shot. He was the top Horizon League player in the field. It was the fourth time in six tournaments this year where Sommerfeld has topped the Titan players. It was also his fourth Top 20 finish.









Women's Golf Athlete of the Week





LYNNSEY SHOWERS

Butler, Sophomore, Kokomo, Ind.





Butler sophomore Lynnsey Showers is the Horizon League Women's Golf Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 23.



Showers placed third in the final individual standings and helped Butler to a third place finish in the final team standings at the Butler Spring Invitational. She shot an opening round 80 and then closed with an 82, despite playing in cold, wet and windy conditions at Prestwick Country Club. Her final total of 162 was just four strokes behind tournament medalist Julie Harder of Ball State. Showers led the 56-player field with 21 pars.









Other Top Male Performers





Eric Mabee, UW-Green Bay, Junior (Ripon, Wis.)

Mabee was the top Phoenix finisher, placing 15th overall with a 13-over-par 157 at the Butler Spring Invite last week.





Marty Miller, Wright State, Senior (Middletown, Ohio)

Miller had the Raiders top finish at the El Diablo Intercollegiate hosted by Marshall University in Citrus Springs, Fla. Miller finished in 36th place with a total of 232.









Other Top Female Performers





Mandi Dupuis, Detroit, Freshman (Tecumseh, Ont.)

Dupuis was Detroit's top individual finisher at the Butler Invitational as she led Detroit to fifth place as a team. Dupuis shot rounds of 86 and 85 in the 36-hole event, and her 171 total was good for a share of 12th place. It was the fifth time in six tournaments this year where Dupuis has topped the Titan players.
