Men's Player of the Week

Mark Sommerfeld, Detroit
Waterloo, Ontario * Senior
Sommerfeld led for two rounds at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational and eventually finished second at three-under-par, leading Detroit to third place as a team at Ball State's annual tournament. Sommerfeld put together rounds of 66, 68 and 73. His 66 in the first round tied his personal best and was just one shot off the 18-hole school record.

Women's Player of the Week

Niki Garden, Butler
St. Albans, Mo. * Senior
Garden posted a top-10 individual finish and helped lead Butler to a tie for fourth place in the final team standings at the Western Illinois Invitational. She shot an opening-round 82 and then came back with a three-over-par 75 in the final round for a two-day total of 157. Garden's final round 75 was the low round for a Butler player in the tournament.

Men's

Kent Monas, Cleveland State
Strongsville, Ohio * Freshman
Monas placed fifth at the Cleveland State Invitational contested Sept. 24-25 at Sand Ridge Golf Club in Chardon. He was tied for second place after rounds of 73 and 69 on Monday before finishing with a 76 in Tuesday's final round for a 54-hole total of 218.

Robert Caplin, Loyola
St. Louis, Mo. * Sophomore
Caplin tied for third place at the Cleveland State Invitational earlier this week, posting a 216 (76-71-69) to help Loyola finish second in the 11-team field. The sophomore fired an even-par 71 in round two before closing out the tourney with a two-under 69, is his career low score and the lowest by a Rambler this fall.

Travis Meyer, Green Bay
River Falls, Wis. * Senior
Meyer finished in a tie for 17th at the EKU Colonel Classic last week after carding a three-round total of 219. He was the only Green Bay player to shoot par or lower in two rounds at the event.

Tyler Miskell, Wright State
Heath, Ohio * Senior
Miskell posted his second top-20 finish of the season this past weekend at the EKU Colonel Classic, posting a three-round score of 219. His scored equated into a three over-par and placed him in a tie for 17th out of 65 total golfers. Miskell shot 74-68-77 over the weekend and helped the Raiders to a sixth-place finish.

Ryan Stocke, Youngstown State
Elida, Ohio * Junior
Stocke posted his second second-place finish of his career by finishing in that spot at the Cleveland State Invitational which was held Sept. 24-25. Stocke finished with a three-round score of 214 to finish one shot out of medalist honors. He had rounds of 69, 71 and 74 in the event. His 69 was the second-lowest in his career.

Women's

Katie Rogner, Youngstown State
Warren, Ohio * Freshman
Rogner continued her strong early season play with her second straight second-place finish. Rogner, who was second at the season-opening YSU invitational, placed second at the St. Francis Invitational which was held Sept. 23-24. She had a two-round total of 161 following a first round 81 and carded an 80 on the final day of competition.

Katie Broere, Cleveland State
Bracebridge, Ontario * Sophomore
Broere tied for ninth place at the Western Illinois Autumn Invitational played Sept. 16-17. She opened with an 82 before coming back to card a career-low tying 75 in the final round for a 36-hole total of 157. Her 75 in the final round was one stroke shy of equaling the school record for low round.

Lucy McGovern, Loyola
Escondido, Calif. * Sophomore
McGovern tied for first among Rambler golfers, and 32nd overall, with a 166 (80-86) at the WIU Autumn Invitational, Sept. 16-17. McGovern has now been Loyola's top finisher in eight of nine meets dating back to last fall.

Horizon League News & Notes

Butler Bulldogs

Men's
- Butler came in seventh at the Cleveland State Invitational, behind the top-20 finishes of sophomore Kyle Thomas and freshman John Farrelly. Both golfers shot a 54-hole total of 227 (+14) and tied for 16th in the individual competition.

- Thomas has led or tied for the lead in scoring for the Bulldogs in all four matches this fall. Senior Abe Mulvihill recorded one of five eagles carded at the Cleveland State Invitational.

Women's
- The Bulldogs tied with Eastern Illinois for fourth place at the Western Illinois Invitational women's golf tournament. The Bulldogs finished eight strokes behind third place Northern Iowa and 13 strokes behind tournament champ Drake.

- Senior Niki Garden shot her best round of the fall season with a 75 in the final round of the Western Illinois Invitational. She became the fourth Butler player to break 80 this fall.

Cleveland State Vikings

Men's
- Freshman Kent Monas has recorded two straight top-five finishes. He was third at the Kansas Invitational before finishing fifth at this past week's CSU Invitational.

- Junior Jake Scott's ninth-place performance at the CSU Invitational was his fifth top-10 showing in his last seven events.

Women's
- Sophomore Katie Broere carded a 75 in the final round of the Western Illinois Autumn Invitational. It was her second 75 of the season, which is one shot shy of tying the school-record for low round.

- Senior Amanda Glatfelter's 80 in the first round of the Western Illinois Autumn Invitational was the Vikings' second lowest round of the tournament.

Detroit Titans

Men's
- The Titans finished third at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational last week, just six shots behind pace-setting Toledo and one away from catching Eastern Kentucky for second.

- Detroit's team total, 848, matched the school record for 54 holes. The team was paced by senior Mark Sommerfeld's three-round total of 207 (three-under).

Women's
- Did not compete

Loyola Ramblers

Men's
- Loyola placed second at the 11-team Cleveland State Invitational this week, finishing ahead of fellow Horizon League foes Cleveland State, Butler and Youngstown State.

- The Ramblers' second-place finish was its best since also capturing second place at the Wiscon Corporation Invitational in April. Sophomore Robert Caplin turned in his finest performance as a Rambler, tying for third place with a 216 (76-71-69).

Women's
- Sophomore Lucy McGovern led or tied for the team's top score for the ninth straight meet dating back to last fall as the Ramblers tied for 10th at the Western Illinois Autumn Invitational.

- McGovern and senior Michelle Puch each posted 36-hole scores of 166 to tie for 32nd, while junior Kaitlin Kearney saw her first action of the fall and tied for 47th with a 170 (86-84).

Green Bay Phoenix

Men's
- Green Bay finished fourth at the EKU Colonel Classic last week, finishing one stroke behind third-place Marshall and three shots back of runner-up Malone College.

- Seniors Travis Meyer and Garrett Gosh each fired three-round totals of 219 to tie for 17th at the event. Gosh's second-round 68 was the Phoenix top score of the tournament and tied the team's low round for the season.

Women's
- Did not compete

Wright State Raiders

Men's
- The Raiders posted a second-round score of 280 on Friday at the EKU Colonel Classic, putting the team eight under-par for the round. That mark tied the WSU school record for a single round.

- Senior Tyler Miskell was the top finisher for the Raiders as he tied for 17th with a three-round score of 219. Sophomore Matt Bond tied for 24th with a 221.

Youngstown State Penguins

Men's
- Junior Ryan Stocke finished second at the Cleveland State Invitational for the Penguins. It was the best showing for a Penguin since Stocke was second at the Dayton Spring Invitational (April 23-24, 2007).

- Freshman Spenser Sulzner made a successful collegiate debut, finishing with YSU's second-highest mark at 231. The freshman placed 28th overall.

Women's
- Youngstown State won its second tournament to open the season, which marks the first time in school history that the Penguins have won consecutive events.

- Every Penguin who competed in the meet placed in the top 10. The team was paced by freshman Katie Rogner, who has finished second in her first two collegiate meets.
