EUGENE, Ore. -- Youngstown State alumnus Bobby Grace took 8th in the shot put at the United States Olympic Track and Field Team Trials from Hayward Field.
Grace, who now competes for the Shore Athletic Club in New Jersey, threw 20.06 meters (65-9 3/4") in the finals on his third throw.
The top three finishers qualified for the 2016 Olympic Team that will compete at the Rio Olympics in August.
Grace, the 2014 League Athlete of the Year and record holder in the shot put, qualified for the finals with a toss of 19.93 meters, good for 12th among 24 competitors.
Four other Horizon League alums will be competing at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials: Conner Neu (Youngstown State) – Hammer Throw; Colin Cashner (Detroit) – Hammer Throw; Cassandra Lloyd (Wright State) - 100 meter hurdles; Garrett Huyler (Milwaukee assistant coach) – High Jump. Meanwhile, Detroit alum Kahlil Parris will run the 400 meter hurdles and 400 meters at the Canadian Olympic Trials on July 7-9.
