ANTWERP, Belgium – After a sophomore season cut short by injury, Anton Grady continued his strong return to action, notching a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds as Cleveland State won for the third time in as many games in Europe with a 77-68 victory over St. Jan Antwerpt on Monday night.
Playing for the third time in four nights in Europe and the second straight night in Belgium, the Vikings had three others reach double figures.
Trey Lewis and Bryn Forbes scored 13 points each, while Sebastian Douglas finished with 11 points, six rebounds and two steals. Charlie Lee scored nine points and Jon Harris tallied six points and eight rebounds.
CSU scored the first six points of the game and raced out to a 10-2 lead on a Grady layup. The Vikings led after one quarter, 16-10. The Viking lead would swell to 20 points (35-15) midway through the second quarter on a Douglas jumper before Antwerp cut the deficit back to 15 points late in the half. However, a Harris three-pointer with 1:10 left in the half gave the Vikings a 43-25 halftime lead.
Antwerp would open the second half on an 18-4 run to slice CSU's lead to 47-43 midway through the third quarter.
But CSU responded with a Grady layup and back-to-back three-pointers from Lee and Forbes to push the advantage back to 12 points (56-43) as CSU closed the quarter strong to lead 61-44. CSU pushed the lead up to 20 points in the fourth quarter.
The Vikings out-rebounded Antwerp, 47-37 and made 10 steals.
CSU will be back in action for the fourth time in Europe on Wednesday (Aug. 21) when the Vikings play Tremblay in France.
