2009 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship Bracket (PDF)
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has earned an 11 seed and will travel to sixth-seeded Louisiana State University for the first round of the 2009 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament on Sunday, March 22, at 7 p.m. ET.
The winner of Sunday's contest at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center will take on the winner of #3 Louisville vs. #14 Liberty next Tuesday, March 24, at 9:30 p.m. ET.
Green Bay (29-3) enters the NCAA Tournament on a 21-game winning streak, which ties for the second-longest active streak in the country. UWGB became the first Horizon League team to go 18-0 in conference action and then rolled to three straight victories in the Speedway Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship.
Green Bay's 29 wins tie a League and program record, matching the team's effort in 2006-07.
LSU (18-10) tied for second in the Southeastern Conference before falling to eventual champion Vanderbilt in the SEC semifinal round. The Tigers have won six of their last seven contests heading into Sunday's match-up with the Phoenix.
Green Bay is 0-1 all-time against the Tigers, with the only previous meeting coming in the 2003 NCAA Tournament. The Phoenix dropped an 80-69 decision to LSU that year in the second round in Eugene, Ore.
This will be Green Bay's 10th trip to the NCAA Tournament. It will also be the seventh time the Phoenix will face a first-round opponent on their home court (Stanford, 1994; Illinois, 1998; UCLA, 1999; Old Dominion, 2000; Texas, 2002; Maryland, 2005).
