Green Bay Names Jeremy Bonomo as Next Men's Soccer Head Coach

Jeremy Bonomo has been hired as the head coach of the Green Bay men’s soccer program, Director of Athletics Mary Ellen Gillespie announced on Monday. Bonomo, who most recently served as a top assistant at the University of Cincinnati from 2010-2014, brings five years of coaching experience as an assistant coach at the top Division I level and three years as a head coach at the Division II level.

“I’m excited and very proud to be the next head coach for the Green Bay men’s soccer program. I am looking forward to working with the players, administration and alumni as we strive to make the Phoenix a top conference program,” Bonomo said. “In the not so distant past, this program was on top and that’s where we want to be once again. On behalf of my entire family, I want to thank Mary Ellen Gillespie for this wonderful opportunity.”

Bonomo displayed a proven ability to recruit while at Cincinnati, securing six top-100 recruits, five high school All-Americans and one junior college All-American, two state players of the year and two members of youth national teams. Bonomo played a vital role in developing the 2011 recruiting class for the Bearcats, which was ranked 28th nationally. Additionally, Bonomo was responsible for recruiting six of TopDrawerSoccer.com's Top 100 Freshmen throughout his stint at UC.

Prior to his arrival at UC, Bonomo spent three seasons as the head coach at Assumption College. The Greyhounds held a 2-13-2 record before Bonomo's tenure began, but he finished his stint at Assumption with a 9-6-3 record in 2009 that included a final No. 10 ranking in the NSCAA East Regional Ranking. He developed seven all-conference, two all-region and one player of the year with the Greyhounds, while being named the conference’s Coach of the Year in 2009.

Bonomo began his career as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for his alma mater, Southern New Hampshire. In his final season, the Penmen advanced to the NE-10 Semifinals and the NCAA New England Regional.

Bonomo played collegiately at Southern New Hampshire, where he captained teams that posted a 62-14-10 record during his career that included three NCAA Tournaments, two NCAA quarterfinal appearances and the 2002 National Runner-Up. SNHU also made four Northeast-10 Conference playoff appearances and earned two league championships.

In addition to playing soccer on the collegiate level, Bonomo was a member of the PDL's Cape Cod Crusaders' national champion team in 2003 and the USL's Western-Mass Pioneers in 2005.

Bonomo graduated from Southern New Hampshire University cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2002 and received his master’s degree in business administration with a certificate in Operations Management from SNHU in 2006. He holds a United States Soccer Federation `A' License.
He will become the 10th head coach of the Green Bay men’s soccer program and will look to guide the Phoenix to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009. Green Bay hasn’t finished higher than seventh place in the Horizon League over the last three years, as Bonomo will seek to take the program to new heights.

Green Bay won three of its final four matches of the 2014 season under the direction of interim head coach Marc Baumbach, as the Phoenix played valiantly down the stretch despite having already been eliminated from the postseason. The Phoenix returns eight of its top 10 point scorers from last season as well as its starting goalkeeper, leaving Bonomo with an experienced roster entering the 2015 season this upcoming fall.
