INDIANAPOLIS -- The Horizon League Executive Council voted to accept a bid from Green Bay to host the 2016 Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championship at the Kress Events Center. The tournament will include all ten teams in a four-day format beginning March 10 and culminating with the championship game on March 13 on ESPNU.

Green Bay was voted host of the Championship by the Executive Council after a thorough vetting of multiple bids from institutions throughout the League. The 2016 Tournament will mark the 10th-straight year that the city of Green Bay will welcome the Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championship.

“We are beyond thrilled to have been selected to host the Horizon League Women’s Basketball Tournament,” said Green Bay Athletic Director Mary Ellen Gillespie. “Green Bay has a long track record of success in hosting this tournament because the university and community embrace it so well.  Knowing this far in advance allows our staff to go above and beyond what we have been able to do in the past.  We will engage a local host committee and will provide many opportunities for volunteers to assist us in providing the very best experience for the student-athletes on all ten teams playing in Green Bay.”

For the first time since 2001, the entire field will compete at one site for every round of the tournament. In previous years, the first round and quarterfinals were played on the campus of the higher seeded team.

“We are excited to be bringing all ten of our women’s basketball teams to the Kress Events Center for the 2016 Horizon League Championship,” Horizon League Commissioner Jon LeCrone said. “The city of Green Bay and Green Bay Athletics have a rich tradition of hosting Horizon League events that provide exceptional experiences for our students, coaches and fans.  We look forward to celebrating the academic and athletic achievements of our women’s basketball students in Green Bay.“

All rounds of the Championship will be streamed on ESPN3 with the championship airing on ESPNU March 13 at 1 p.m. ET. Additional game times and tournament information will be announced at a later date.
