GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – After winning its 15th-consecutive game Feb. 12, the No. 17/14 Green Bay (24-1, 13-0 HL) women’s basketball team tied its highest ranking in program history at No. 14 in this week’s ESPN/USA TODAY Coaches Poll released Feb. 15. The No. 14 ranking is Green Bay’s highest of the season after being ranked No. 15 Jan. 18 in the Coaches Top 25 Poll.
The last time the Phoenix was ranked No. 14 was on Jan. 19 during the 2009-10 season. Green Bay’s highest national ranking in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll was 16th on Jan. 13, 2003. This week the Phoenix is No. 17 in the AP Poll, also its highest of the season in the poll.
Green Bay ranks in the nation’s top 10 in seven statistical categories including, tied for first in won-lost percentage (96.), third in Assists per game (20.0) and free-throw percentage (79.4) and fourth in turnover margin (7.88). The Phoenix ranks sixth in three-point field goal percentage defense (25.0), seventh in scoring defense (51.2) and eighth in scoring margin (21.6).
The Phoenix will travel to Milwaukee (9-14, 6-6 HL) Saturday where it will face its in-state rival at 2 p.m. at the Klotsche Center. Green Bay will host Valparaiso (6-19, 3-10 HL) Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Kress Events Center before welcoming Butler (15-10, 9-4 HL) for its final home game of the regular season Saturday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m.
