GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – With the 2011 women’s basketball National Champion crowned (Texas A&M), the NCAA released its final national statistic rankings. Green Bay (34-2) finished its 2010-11 campaign in the top three in four categories including second in both won-lost percentage and assists per game and third in both turnover margin and free-throw percentage.
Overall, the Phoenix finished in the top 25 in 11 of the 18 national statistical categories. Green Bay won 94.4 percent of its games compared to national leader Connecticut who won 94.7 percent of its contests. Gonzaga topped the rankings in assists per game with 20.1, edging out the Phoenix who finished second with 20.0.
With its 78.1-percent shooting from the free-throw line, Green Bay finished third in the statistic behind national leader Bowling Green who shot 79.9 percent. In addition, the Phoenix was third in turnover margin (7.97) as National Champion Texas A&M led the nation with its 8.03 margin.
Green Bay outscored its opponents by an average of 20.9 points per game while its assist turnover ratio was 1.25, finishing sixth best in the nation in both categories. Holding its opponents to an average of 53.1 points per game, the Phoenix finished its season ranked ninth in scoring defense. In addition, Green Bay had an average of 12.3 steals per game and held its opponents three-point-shooting percentage to 27.0, which ranks 12th in the nation.
Sinking 44.9 percent of its shots, the Phoenix finished its season ranked 17th in field-goal percentage and 25th in scoring offense while averaging 74.1 points per game.
In the final NCAA RPI rankings of the season, Green Bay finished 20th while it was 10th in the Sagarin RPI. Compared to the NCAA RPI, the Sagarin statistically accounts for away games. Both RPI rankings are Green Bay’s highest of the season.
Individually, junior Hannah Quilling (Eau Claire, Wis.) finished the season ranked 25th in assist turnover ratio (1.89). Co-Horizon League Player of the Year Celeste Hoewisch (Hortonville, Wis.) finished 76th in steals per game (2.4) while Julie Wojta (Mishicot, Wis.) was 76th in field-goal percentage (47.7) and Kayla Tetschlag (Sheboygan, Wis.) finished 77th in free-throw percentage (81.8).
In the 18 team categories, 333 teams are included in the rankings while 250 players are ranked in the 12 individual categories.
National Poll… Green Bay finished the season ranked No. 9 in the final ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, moving up two spots from No. 11. The ranking is the highest in Phoenix history.
