GREEN BAY, Wis. – Green Bay women’s soccer players Maddie Drusch (Appleton, Wis.) and Corey Arno (Winneconne, Wis.) were recently recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for their strong 2010 seasons both on the field and in the classroom. Drusch was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-Central Region Second Team, while Arno received an honorable mention.

“It’s always a proud moment when two of our players are recognized not only for their hard work on the soccer field but also their dedication in the classroom,” Green Bay head coach Trevor Warren said. “Corey and Maddie are the embodiment of the term student-athlete and I’m pleased that the NSCAA has recognized this by giving them this award.”

Drusch, a junior goalkeeper, captained Green Bay’s record-setting defense in 2010 while maintaining a 3.73 grade-point average as an elementary education major. Drusch posted a league best 0.91 goals-against average last season, earning second team All-Horizon League honors. The junior was also named the Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Month in September after leading the Phoenix to a No. 1 national ranking in team save percentage (93.3) in the NCAA statistical rankings released on Sept. 19. Drusch concluded the year ranked first in school history in goals-against average (1.24).

Arno, a junior midfielder, played in every game for the Phoenix for the third straight season, starting 13 times. The junior took 10 shots on the season, including three on goal while also contributing to the team’s impressive defensive numbers. In the classroom, Arno holds a 3.55 GPA while double-majoring in human biology and Spanish.
