INDIANAPOLIS - Green Bay sophomore guard Rahmon Fletcher and Detroit sophomore guard Chase Simon have been named the Horizon League Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week for the week ending Jan. 17.
A native of Kansas City, Mo., Fletcher averaged 21 points and 3.5 assists as Green Bay (13-6, 7-2 Horizon League) took over sole possession of second place in the League standings with a pair of two-point victories over Wright State (68-66) Thursday and Detroit (74-72) Saturday. He scored a team-high 18 points against Wright State and had 24 versus Detroit, including 20 in the second half to keep the Titans at bay. For the week, Fletcher shot 53 percent (16-of-30) from the floor with four three-pointers and was 6-of-7 at the free-throw line.
A preseason All-Horizon League pick, Fletcher ranks second in the League in scoring with 17.2 points per game and is averaging a League-high 20.1 in conference games only.
Simon, a native of Detroit, averaged 28.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Titans. He posted his first double-double with career-highs of 33 points and 12 rebounds in Detroit's 81-65 victory at Milwaukee Thursday. Then, in the loss at Green Bay, he tied Fletcher for game-high scoring honors with 24 points for his third straight 20-point outing. For the week, Simon shot 59 percent (24-of-41) from the field and 5-for-6 from the free-throw stripe.
Simon is averaging 13.8 points per game for the season and ranks fifth in League-games only with a team-best 15.5 per contest.
