INDIANAPOLIS -- Green Bay junior Leopold Gomez Islinger (Weiden, Germany) and Valparaiso sophomore Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio) are the Men’s Tennis Co-Players of the Week while Detroit sophomore Anna Davydova (Moscow, Russia) is the Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 3-9.

The Green Bay men’s tennis team competed against in-state rival Wisconsin Saturday on the road. The Phoenix defeated the Badgers for the first time in program history with a 4-1 victory. Green Bay dropped the doubles point in the early stages of the match but bounced back to claim four of the singles points.

Gomez Islinger picked up a win at No. 2 singles for Green Bay against Wisconsin’s Alexander Kokorev. The junior won the first set 7-6(5) but fell in the second 2-6. In the third and deciding set, Gomez Islinger pulled away to claim a 6-3 win to claim the match victory.

Valparaiso competed in three matches in Orland, Fla. and recorded a perfect 3-0 record last week. The Crusaders defeated Coe College 5-2, St. Thomas Aquinas College 7-0, and Quinnipiac 6-1.

Schorsch posted a flawless record for Valparaiso over the three matches while going 3-0 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles. The sophomore won at No. 1 singles versus St. Thomas Aquinas College (6-2, 6-0) in addition to his No. 2 singles wins over Coe College (6-2, ret.) and Quinnipiac (6-3, 6-2). At No. 1 doubles with teammate Charlie Emhardt the duo secured three dominant victories.

The Detroit women’s tennis team competed in four matches on their spring trip in Orlando, Fla. and went 3-1. The squad defeated Presbyterian in a close 4-3 match but fell in the following match to Nova Southeastern 5-1. The Titans faced Grand Valley State the next day and won 4-2 over their in-state foe. To complete the trip, Detroit captured a 7-0 win over Mount St. Mary’s.

Davydova recorded a perfect week for the Titans going 3-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles. Each of her singles victories were in the No. 4 spot against student-athletes from Mount St. Mary’s (6-4, 6-2), Grand Valley State (6-3, 6-2) and Presbyterian (6-3, 6-2). In No. 1 doubles play with teammate Irina Slizovskaya, the duo defeated Presbyterian (6-3,), Nova Southeastern (8-6), Grand Valley State (8-3) and Mount St. Mary’s (6-1).

Valparaiso continues its matches in Florida as the team is set to face the University of Miami, Wheaton College and College of Wooster this week. The Phoenix take on Fresno State on March 17 in Fresno, CA while the Titans take a short break from competition until the team begins conference play against Green Bay on March 21.

Top Men’s Tennis Players of the Week:
Manuel Bellutti, Cleveland State (Sr.): Went 1-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles play over weekend with his singles win coming against Hawaii (7-5, 6-2).
Andrew Connolly, Wright State (Fr.): Won at No. 5 singles against North Greenville (6-3, 6-0) and Coker (6-2, 6-0) while also winning in doubles versus Coker (8-2) and Limestone College (8-6).
Patryk Koscielski, Detroit (So.): Went 3-2 in singles and 2-3 in doubles during the Titans’ spring trip. All three singles wins were at the top spot, including two sweeps.

Top Women’s Tennis Players of the Week:
Elaine Cloern, Wright State (So.): Won at No. 5 singles versus North Greenville (6-0, 6-1), Coker (6-1, 6-3) and Limestone (6-1, 6-1). Also won at No. 3 doubles against Limestone (8-6).
Princess Gbadamosi, Cleveland State (So.): Went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles on the weekend against Hawaii Pacific and Hawaii Hilo.
