INDIANAPOLIS -- Green Bay seniorJulie Wojta is the Horizon League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the period from Jan. 23-Jan. 29 after leading the Phoenix to two victories last week to stay undefeated.
On Thursday against Butler, Wojta had 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting and also had a team-leading five assists and three steals. Her 15 points pushed her into Green Bay’s top-10 list for career scoring.
On Saturday against Valparaiso, Wojta had game-highs in points (19), rebounds (10) and steals (4) as the Phoenix improved to 19-0. The double-double was Wojta’s conference leading 10th of the season and her 10 rebounds moved her into the top-10 on Green Bay’s career rebounding list.
Wojta now has 1,352 points for her career and 700 rebounds. She is one of only seven players in Phoenix history to be in the top-10 in both scoring and rebounding.
Green Bay (19-0, 9-0) only plays once this coming week, facing Milwaukee (6-13, 2-7) at home in the Kress Events Center on Saturday with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
Other Top Performers for the Week:
Kim Demmings, Wright State (Fr., G) - Demmings averaged 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists in WSU’s two games last week. She had 25 points, including 10 in overtime, in Wright State’s 71-66 win. She also had a career-high 14 rebounds and nine assists.
Sarah Hamm, Butler (So., C) - Hamm had career-highs in points (30) and rebounds (11) in Butler’s win over Milwaukee on Saturday.
Shareta Brown, Detroit (Fr., F) - Brown averaged 20.5 points and 10.0 rebounds last week as Detroit split two games. She had 21 points and 12 rebounds, her eighth double-double of the season, against Youngstown State and had 20 points and eight rebounds in the Titans’ win over Cleveland State.
Kiara Strickland, UIC (Sr., G/F) - Strickland had 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in UIC’s 57-56 win over Loyola.
Cori Coleman, Cleveland State (Fr., G) - Coleman averaged 11.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in Cleveland State’s two games last week.
Courtney Lindfors, Milwaukee (So., C) - Lindfors averaged 16.5 points, five rebounds and 2.5 blocks in the Panthers two games last week.
Abby Skube, Loyola (Jr., F) -Skube had 21 points and seven rebounds in Loyola’s loss to UIC.
Gina Lange, Valparaiso (Jr., F) - Lange shot 65 percent from the field last week, averaging 16.5 points in Valparaiso’s two games. She had a career-high 18 points and added a season-high nine rebounds against Green Bay.
