INDIANAPOLIS –Green Bay senior Hailey Mohrfeld (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) is the Horizon League softball Player of the Week while UIC sophomore Elaine Heflin (Downers Grove, lll.) is the Horizon League softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 14-26.

Green Bay competed against Youngstown State in a three-game weekend conference series this past weekend. The Phoenix captured the win in the first game of the doubleheader on Friday 8-4 but fell in the second to the Penguins 6-1. The team claimed the series on Saturday where Green Bay won 7-3 to move to a 8-9 record in the Horizon League.

Mohrfeld led Green Bay at the plate with a .750 batting average, 1.083 slugging percentage and .769 on-base percentage. The senior went 9-for-12 against Youngstown State to extend her hitting streak to eight games. She tallied a double, home run, two RBI and four runs scored in addition to moving to second place all-time on Green Bay’s single-season hits list with 55. Mohrfeld reached base once on a walk and also added a steal to her weekend efforts.

UIC had four contests last week with a non-conference matchup against Bradley on Tuesday followed by a three-game series with Wright State spanning over Friday and Saturday. The Flames fell to Bradley 6-5 but bounced back taking on the Raiders to notch the series with two wins. UIC won on Friday 7-1, fell in the first game on Saturday 7-6 and captured the victory in the series finale 3-2.

Heflin garnered pitcher of the week accolades for the second-straight week after going 2-1 with a 1.38 earned-run average. The sophomore came in for relief against Bradley, going 3.1 innings and allowed just three hits, one earned run and five strike outs. Against Wright State, she pitched two complete games while giving up only three runs, 11 hits and no walks. In Mohrfeld’s 17 innings of work facing the Raiders she fanned 17 batters for a 1.24 ERA and .242 batting-against average.

UIC faces Northern Illinois on Wednesday, April 29 while Green Bay is off until the team starts its series with Detroit on the road beginning on Friday.

Top Players of the Week:
Alyson Broschk, Cleveland State (Jr.): Went 9-for-16 over the week with three runs, one double, two homers and eight RBI.
Sarah Dowd, Youngstown State (So.): Batted .500 (11-for-20) with six runs scored three doubles, a home run and four RBIs last week. She also finished with an .850 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage.
Hanna Floyd, Wright State (Jr.): Tabbed four hits for the Raiders for a .364 batting average and .417 on-base percentage.
Kayla Kostich, Detroit (Sr.): Hit .500 going 4-for-8 with two doubles, two runs scored, three RBI and four walks.
Morgan Muron, Oakland (Sr.): Went 3-for-8 with a double, two runs and a RBI against Cleveland State in the doubleheader on Saturday in addition to going 2-for-4 on Friday.
Kaitlyn Ranieri, Valparaiso (Jr.): Went 6-for-8 at the plate for Valparaiso in the series versus Detroit. The junior tallied two doubles, three RBI, three walks, five runs scored and two home runs for the Crusaders.
Laura Swan, UIC (Jr.): Recorded her first-career multi-home run game against Bradley with two and went 5-for-7 during the Friday doubleheader versus Wright State with a double, home run and three RBI.

Top Pitchers of the Week:
Heather Sanderson, Green Bay (So.): Pitched 10.2 innings for a 2-0 record for Green Bay while fanning nine batters and a 2.62 earned-run average.
Haley Zemmer, Oakland (Fr.): Tossed 7.0 innings for Oakland for a 8-3 win in game three on the series. She did not allow an earned run and just five hits.
