INDIANAPOLIS -- Green Bay senior forward Hekla Palmadottir (Akranes, Iceland) is the Horizon League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Detroit sophomore goalkeeper Martha Dunbar (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) has earned Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 26-Sept. 3. The award is the first of both players’ careers.

Green Bay (2-1-1) captured a 3-1 win over Western Illinois to open the Green Bay Phoenix Soccer Tournament on Friday before a 2-0 victory against Eastern Illinois on Sunday gave the Phoenix the tournament title. Detroit (1-2-1) split results on its West Coast swing, dropping a 2-1 decision at No. 18 California before emerging with a 1-0 overtime win at San Francisco.

Palmadottir was Green Bay’s catalyst throughout the tournament, collecting offensive most valuable player accolades. The senior opened the scoring in the Phoenix’s win over WIU, converting a corner kick in the 64th minute. In Sunday’s championship-clinching victory, Palmadottir assisted on tallies by Abby Juzwik and Jenna Harrington.

Dunbar notched a career-best eight saves in Sunday’s overtime win, preserving a clean sheet for 99:21 in recording her first career shutout. On Friday night, Dunbar turned away five Cal shots on goal in a match in which the Golden Bears outshot Detroit, 19-2, overall.

Green Bay will hit the road over the weekend, traveling to Indiana State for a 7 p.m. ET match on Friday, Sept. 6. The Phoenix will meet Drake on Sunday, with the match beginning at 2 p.m. ET. Detroit will continue its time away from the Motor City this weekend, heading to Canisius for a Friday night match at 7 p.m. ET.
