INDIANAPOLIS -- Green Bay junior Howard Scott (Exeter, England) is the Men’s Tennis Player of the Week while Detroit junior Irina Slizovskaya (Saransk, Russia) is the Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 24-March 2.
Green Bay competed on the road against No. 38 Louisville and Butler this past week. The men’s squad lost to the Cardinals 4-1 but bounced back to defeat Butler 6-1. Green Bay swept the Bulldogs in singles play after losing the early doubles point.
Scott was the only Phoenix student-athlete to pick up a win against nationally ranked Louisville in singles competition. At No. 3 singles, Scott defeated the Cardinals’ Michael Lippens in straight-sets 6-3, 6-4. On Sunday versus Butler, Scott won again at No. 3 singles facing Sam O’Neill in a three-set match 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to remain undefeated for the week in singles play.
Detroit competed in three dual matches this last week against Northern Kentucky, Northern Iowa and Chicago State in Homewood, Ill. The women’s team won all three matches beginning with a 6-0 win over Northern Kentucky, 4-3 victory against Northern Iowa and concluded with a 4-2 win at Chicago State.
Slizovskaya tallied a perfect 5-0 week with three singles wins and two doubles victories with teammate Anna Davydova. At No. 2 singles facing Northern Kentucky the junior won in straight-sets 6-1, 6-3. The following day, Slizovskaya was back in action versus Northern Iowa at No. 2 singles where she won 7-5, 6-2 and tabbed a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles. On the final day competing in Illinois, Slizovskaya took the No. 3 singles spot to defeat home-team Chicago State in straight-sets 6-2, 6-1. With Davydova, the duo were victorious at No. 1 doubles with a 6-2 triumph.
The Green Bay men’s team takes on Wisconsin Saturday, March 7 in Madison, Wis. The Titans women’s squad remains idle until they take on Green Bay on March 21 for their first conference match of the year.

Linsey Verstrepen, Wright State (So.): Won the only Raiders’ match at Xavier 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 at No. 6 and also picked up a win against Western Carolina.
