Green Bay's Tenzer and UIC's Mebuke Tab Player of the Week Accolades

INDIANAPOLIS -- Green Bay senior Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) is the Men’s Tennis Player of the Week while UIC senior Keti Mebuke (Tbilisi, Georgia) is the Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 17-23. This marks the second-straight week Tenzer has garnered the accolade.

The Green Bay men’s tennis team notched its first-ever win over Marquette Sunday, 5-2. The Phoenix claimed five of the six singles match victories to bounce-back after dropping the doubles point early in the contest. With the victory, head coach Mark Thomas tallied his 100th career-win.

Tenzer led the way for the squad at No. 1 singles and defeated the Golden Eagles’ Vukasin Teofanovic. The straight-set 6-2, 6-4 dominance was the senior’s first singles win against Marquette in the dual match in his career at Green Bay.

UIC faced Southeast Missouri on Sunday and grabbed the dual match victory, 6-1. The team had an overall strong performance on the courts while collecting five of the six singles match wins and the doubles-point to begin the matchup.

Mebuke played strong for the Flames winning both her singles and doubles matches. The senior defeated SEMO’s Kateryna Stoianova at No. 1 singles in straight-sets 6-2, 6-1. In doubles play with teammate Oana Manole at No. 1, the pair grabbed a 6-1 win en route to the Flames clinching the doubles point.

The Phoenix travel to Louisville, Ky. to face No. 42 Louisville and IUPUI on Saturday, February 28. The Flames resume action on March 6 against Michigan State and March 7 versus Eastern Michigan.

Top Men’s Tennis Players of the Week:
Dan Gilbert, Wright State (So.): Picked-up a win at No. 3 singles  and No. 3 doubles versus Temple. Also won at No. 3 doubles facing Wittenberg, 6-1. 
Isaac Lloveras, UIC (Sr.): Defeated IPFW’s Gerard Guell at No. 1 singles 7-6, 6-2 for his second win at the top singles spot on the season.
Hugo Morth, Youngstown State (Fr.): Won his fourth-consecutive match at No. 2 singles against Buffalo.
Jeffrey Schorsch, Valparaiso (So.): Went 2-0 at No. 1 singles with wins against Olivet Nazarene and Chicago State. In addition, won at No. 1 doubles with teammate Charlie Emhardt against Chicago State.
Jorg van der Vloet, Cleveland State (Sr.): Went 2-0 at No. 3 singles over the weekend facing Western Michigan and Michigan to improve to 7-0 this spring.

Top Women’s Tennis Players of the Week:
Dominika Lackova, Youngstown State (So.): Won at No. 1 singles against Buffalo in her first time playing at the top spot.
Mathilde Orange, Cleveland State (Jr.): Earned a No. 2 singles spot win against Akron in straight-sets 6-3, 6-2.
Linsey Verstrepen, Wright State (So.): Won at No. 6 singles against West Virginia 6-0, 7-5 and also at No. 1 doubles 6-3.
