INDIANAPOLIS -- Green Bay senior Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) is the Men’s Tennis Player of the Week while Youngstown State senior Marta Burak (Lviv, Ukraine) is the Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of April 7-13. This is the third weekly honor that Burak has received this season and the fifth for Tenzer.
The Green Bay men’s tennis team notched at least a share of the Horizon League regular season championship for the third-straight season with two wins over the weekend. The squad hosted Cleveland State on Saturday and Youngstown State on Sunday. The Phoenix defeated the Vikings and Penguins 6-1 while showing impressive performances in both singles and doubles play.
Tenzer collected two victories at No. 1 singles while going three-sets against both opponents. Facing Cleveland State’s Joe VanMeter, the senior dropped the first set 6-7 but rallied the next two to win 6-4, 10-8. The win over VanMeter clinched the victory for the Phoenix in the match. On Sunday against Youngstown State’s Remi Chancerel, Tenzer took the first set 6-2, dropped the second 6-7 and dominated the third set 6-0 to capture the win. At No. 1 doubles with teammate Florian Kraenzler, the duo won their match 6-2 and was the sole doubles victory for Green Bay.
Youngstown State took the court on the road against Milwaukee on Saturday and Green Bay on Sunday. The women’s squad defeated the Panthers 6-1 and swept Green Bay 7-0. The Youngstown State women’s team remains undefeated in conference play at 6-0 for the first time in school history.
Burak improved to 28-1 in Horizon League play over her career and has won 23-straight matches for the Penguins. The senior went 2-0 at No. 1 singles over the weekend while also winning one contest at No. 1 doubles. Against Milwaukee, Burak swept Chelsea Bailey in a 6-2, 6-3 match. In doubles play with teammate Julianna Heino, the pair won 6-4 and helped clinch the doubles point for the Penguins. In her singles match versus Green Bay, Burak tallied another straight-set win 6-2, 6-1.
Green Bay takes the road to face Wright State on Sunday for the team’s last regular season match of the year. Youngstown State hosts UIC on Saturday and Valparaiso on Sunday to close out its conference matches. The Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships will take place April 24-26 at the Purdue University Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Ind.

Jeffrey Schorsch, Valparaiso (So.): Went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles and 2-0 at No. 2 singles versus Detroit and UIC over the weekend.
Joe VanMeter, Cleveland State (Jr.): Went 2-1 in singles play at No. 1 and 1-0 in doubles action at No. 2 this week facing Xavier, Green Bay and Marquette.
Top Women’s Tennis Players of the Week:
Chelsea Bailey, Milwaukee (Sr.): Won at No. 1 singles versus Cleveland State (6-3, 3-6, 7-5) and also won at No. 2 doubles in the match 7-6.
Anna Davydova, Detroit (So.): Went 2-0 at No. 3 singles, winning both matches in straight-sets for the Titans in the team’s two conference wins.
Ellen Folkers, Cleveland State (Jr.): Went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and won a match at No. 1 doubles for Cleveland State against Green Bay and Milwaukee.
Oana Manole, UIC (So.): One of two singles wins and two doubles wins for UIC last week at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles.
Keti Mebuke, UIC (Sr.): Went 4-0 with two wins at No. 1 doubles and two wins at No. 1 singles for the Flames against Oakland and Detroit.
