INDIANAPOLIS --  Green Bay senior Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) is the Men’s Tennis Player of the Week while Youngstown State sophomore Dominika Lackova (Bratislava, Slovakia) is the Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 14-20.

The Green Bay men’s tennis team competed at the ITA Midwest Regionals this past weekend in Ann Arbor, Mich. Three Phoenix competed in the main draw in the squad’s final matches of the fall season.

Tenzer led the way at the Midwest Regionals, picking up two wins in the main draw of the tournament. In his first match, the senior defeated Western Michigan’s Maik Steiner, 6-2, 6-2 followed by his second victory of the event against Logan Staggs of Northwestern by a score of 7-6, 6-2. Tenzer completed his fall campaign on the court after falling to Ohio State’s Ralf Steinbach 6-2, 6-4, who was the No. 4 seed in the tournament.

The Youngstown State women’s tennis team competed at the ITA Midwest Regionals in Champaign, Ill., hosted by the University of Illinois. The team was led by Marta Burak and Lackova on the court who advances to the round of 32, respectively.

Lackova won three qualifier matches to make the 64-person tournament bracket, defeating student-athletes from Chicago State, Eastern Michigan and DePaul. In the first round of the main draw, the sophomore topped Ohio State’s Anna Sanford 6-2, 2-6 and 6-4 before facing 29th ranked Quinn Gleason of Notre Dame in the second round. Lackova fell to Gleason 6-2, 6-4 to close out the Regionals for the Penguins.

Green Bay’s fall season is complete while Youngstown State is off until the end of November when the squad will compete at the Disney Classic hosted by Florida State in Orlando.

Top Men’s Tennis Players of the Week:
Remi Chancerel, Youngstown State (Fr.): Went 2-1 at the ITA Regionals in singles defeating Northern Illinois’ tom Hjertonsso and Marquette’s Kristiyan Trukov in straight-sets.
Charlie Emhardt, Valparaiso (So.): Advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Regionals in doubles play with teammate Jeffrey Schorsch. Also won three matches to earn a spot in the main draw of singles play at the tournament.
Patryk Koscielski, Detroit (So.): Went 3-0 in qualifying singles to advance to the main draw of the ITA Regionals for the second year in a row. All three of his wins came in straight sets, including a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Notre Dame’s Billy Pecor.
Isaac Lloveras, UIC (Jr.): Advanced to the second round of the ITA Regionals after defeating Western Michigan’s Matt Hamilton 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-1.
Ali Shabib, Cleveland State (Sr.): Became the first Viking to win three-straight singles matches in the qualifying draw at the ITA Midwest Regionals to advance to the main draw of the tournament.
