INDIANAPOLIS --- University of Wisconsin-Green Bay junior guard Troy Cotton has been named Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 1.

A native of Milwaukee, Wis., Cotton averaged 25 points, five rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in back-to-back victories last week that extended Green Bay's winning streak to three.

Cotton scored a career-high 25 points last Wednesday in an 83-72 victory over the University of Illinois at Chicago, hitting 7-of-12 three-pointers to go along with seven rebounds and four assists. In an 87-68 win Saturday over Loyola University Chicago, he equaled that with 25 points and again shot 7-of-12 from three-point range.

For the week, he made 56 percent (15-of-27) of his shots from the floor, including 58 percent (14-of-24) from three-point range, and was 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Cotton is averaging 12.4 points per game and shooting 42 percent (66-of-157) from beyond the arc this season.

The Phoenix (17-6, 9-2 Horizon League) enters the week in second place in the Horizon League and hosts League-leading and nationally ranked Butler University (19-1, 10-0) Monday at the Resch Center. With a victory, Green Bay would be just a half-game behind the Bulldogs heading into Saturday's home game against third-place University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (14-8, 9-3).

Comprised of 10 public and private institutions of higher learning, the Horizon League is an NCAA Division I athletics conference that sponsors 19 intercollegiate championships and is headquartered in Indianapolis. The League and its member institutions aspire to teach young people, through athletic competition, the value of learning, service to others and personal responsibility.
