INDIANAPOLIS -- Green Bay senior forward Sabastian Xiong (Cottage Grove, Wis.) is the Horizon League Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Milwaukee freshman goalkeeper Liam Anderson (Auckland, New Zealand) has earned Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 26-Sept. 3. The award is the first of both players’ careers.

Green Bay (1-0-1) opened its 2013 campaign with a come-from-behind 3-2 win at DePaul on Friday before battling No. 12 Marquette to a 3-3 draw at Valley Fields on Sunday. In its lone match of the week, Milwaukee (1-0-0) recaptured the Milwaukee Cup with a thrilling 2-1 victory over intracity rival Marquette.

Xiong was Green Bay’s offensive catalyst against the Golden Eagles, tallying a pair of goals in the draw. The senior notched the first and last goals of the match, staking the Phoenix to a 1-0 lead after a strike from 18 yards out. Xiong drew Green Bay even in the 85th minute after receiving a cross in the box, wheeling and firing to beat the keeper.

In his collegiate debut, Anderson turned aside six Marquette shots, including a sprawling save in the 83rd minute to preserve Milwaukee’s lead. Before 3,312 fans, the freshman made two key saves just after halftime to keep momentum on the Panthers’ side.

Green Bay will make its home debut on Saturday, Sept. 7, hosting Western Illinois. The match will be live on the Horizon League Network, beginning at 5 p.m. ET. Ranked No. 24 by Soccer America, Milwaukee will remain at Engelmann Stadium, hosting the 39th Panther Invitational. UWM will meet Drake on Friday, Sept. 6, at 8:30 p.m. ET before welcoming Bowling Green on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 1 p.m. ET. HLN will carry the entire invitational.
