Wright State junior golfer Ryan Wenzler will compete in the Vanderbilt Regional as the NCAA announced its selections Thursday morning.
The three-round regional will take place May 16-18 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tennessee. Wenzler will be one of 10 individuals competing at the regional, which also includes 13 teams.
Following conclusion of the regional, the low five teams and the low individual not on the five qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championships May 27-June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon.
Wenzler earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament after winning the Horizon League Tournament April 22-24 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. He won the tournament with a three-round score of 211, becoming the first Raider to earn medalist honors at the league championship since Brandon Knutson won with a 210 at the 2006 championship in Carmel, Indiana. With his first-place finish, the junior also was named to the league's All-Tournament Team.
The league tournament was the second straight tournament win for Wenzler and the third title this season (NKU Collegiate Classic, Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational). Wenzler became the first WSU player to win three tournaments in a year since Frank Lickliter did so in 1989-90.
Wenzler was a First Team All-Horizon League selection this season as he posted a team-best 72.86 round average.
