INDIANAPOLIS- The 2016 Horizon League volleyball season has come to a close which means that the tournament field has been set. With Cleveland State (14-2 conference) clinching the No. 1 seed last week, many teams were battling for seeding in the tournament during final days of the season.
Green Bay (12-4 conference) clinched No. 2 seed and a quarterfinal bye after taking down Cleveland State on Wednesday. The Phoenix will face the highest remaining seed after the quarterfinals on Saturday at 6:00pm ET while the Vikings will face the lowest remaining seed on Saturday at 3:00pm ET.
It took a gritty five set victory from Northern Kentucky on Saturday against UIC to clinch the No. 3 seed in the tournament. The Norse picked up momentum in the middle of the year sweeping seven straight matches to climb up the standings. Northern Kentucky (11-5 conference) will face No. 6 Valparaiso (6-10 conference) in the quarterfinals after the Crusaders won three of their last five matches to clinch a spot in the tournament. The match will take place on Friday, November 18 at 3:00pm ET.
Oakland (10-6 conference) notched the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 seed Milwaukee (9-7 conference) in the second game of the double-header on Friday, November 18 at 6:00pm ET. The Golden Grizzlies and the Panthers squared off on Friday with Milwaukee winning in straight sets.
All rounds of the tournament will be hosted by Cleveland State with each game being streamed on ESPN3. Additional information on the tournament can be found on the Championship Central tab on the home page.
