INDIANAPOLIS -- Valparaiso junior Eric Honert (Arvada, Colo.) and Detroit freshman Irina Slizovskaya (Sarnska, Russia) have been named the Horizon League tennis Players of the Week.
It is the first honor of the season for both student-athletes.
Honert went 2-0 at No. 1 singles for the Crusdaers, including a 6-1, 6-0 win against Nebraska-Omaha and a 6-4, 6-4 Horizon League win against Detroit. He has won seven of his past nine singles matches. The junior also won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles in Valpo's win over Nebraska-Omaha.
The Crusaders return to action this weekend against Youngstown State and Cleveland State.
Slizovskaya went 6-0 for the Titans this week, including a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles and an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles as Detroit ended UIC's 146-match winning streak in Horizon League play. The freshman also won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and 8-3 at No. 2 doubles in a 7-0 win over Valparaiso and 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and 8-4 at No. 2 doubles in a 7-0 non-conference win over IUPUI.
The Titans host Green Bay and Milwaukee this weekend.
