INDIANAPOLIS – Honoring student-athletes for their successes in the classroom, the Horizon League has announced the members of the 2010 Fall Academic Honor Roll. A total of 724 student-athletes from all 19 sports will be awarded by receiving a signed certificate by Commissioner LeCrone acknowledging their academic success.

Candidates for the Horizon League Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify: 1) participation in at least one of the League’s 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season; 2) completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution; and 3) a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).

Butler led the league with 107 student-athletes honored, followed by Milwaukee with 103 and Loyola with 80 representatives. Valparaiso listed 80 student-athletes, Cleveland State had 69 and Wright State listed 60 honorees. Green Bay and Youngstown State tied with 59 student-athletes while Detroit had 58. UIC rounded out the field with 48 honorees.

A sport-by-sport breakdown includes women’s soccer representing the most student-athletes with 93 honorees followed by men’s soccer representing 74 student-athletes. Other top sports include women’s swimming and diving(61), men’s cross country/track (61), women’s cross country/track(58) and volleyball(48).
