The Horizon League capped off another successful fall and winter sports season with the announcement of its 2003-04 Fall and Winter All-Academic Teams.

The Academic All-League Teams are selected by Horizon League Sports Information Directors and Faculty Athletic Representatives. Nominees must meet the following criteria: 1) a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better on a 4.00 scale; 2) have completed at least three semesters at the same institution; and 3) be a starter or significant contributor in a league-sponsored sport. The team is comprised of the same number of First Team All-Horizon League student-athletes in each sport. Ties are not broken.

FALL ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM


Overall, 43 student-athletes, including eight returnees from the 2002 squad, were selected: Men's Cross Country (7), Women's Cross Country (7), Volleyball (6), Men's Soccer (12) and Women's Soccer (11).

Butler led all Horizon League members with eight selections. Detroit (7), UW-Green Bay (6), UW-Milwaukee (6) and UIC (5) landed at least five honorees followed by Wright State (4), Cleveland State (2) and Youngstown State (2).

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
The men's cross country team features seven new members this season. First-time selections include Detroit's Ciaran Carter, UIC's Mikhail Davidyan, UW-Green Bay's Seth Bodden, UW-Milwaukee's Josh Nygren, Wright State's Cory Scheadler and Youngstown State's Tony Orcena and Jeremy Riehm.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
The women's cross country team also welcomes seven new selections to this year's squad. Those honorees include Butler's Mary Reeves, Monica Behney, Monika Schneider, and Katie Stuckey, UIC's Jenni Goebel, UW-Milwaukee's Anna Christian and Wright State's Lori Siconolfi.

VOLLEYBALL
The volleyball team includes five First Team All-League selections including two repeat honorees from 2002. Two-time selections include Player of the Year UW Green Bay's Janelle Tomlinson and Cleveland State's Jamie Bouyer. Making their first appearance to the All-Academic squad are UIC's Meghan Keck, UW-Green Bay's Leslie Kuhn, UW-Milwaukee's Karen Fruit and Wright State's Tricia Naseman.

MEN'S SOCCER
The men's soccer team is led by three returning selections from last season, including Butler's Andrew Pancio, Detroit's Ablaye Camera and Horizon League Player of the Year UW-Milwaukee's Antou Jallow.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
The women's soccer team is also led by a trio of returnees from 2002. Detroit's Alisson Dube and Loyola's Heather Joseph and Michelle Taylon return to the All-Academic team this season.

WINTER ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM


Overall, 78 student-athletes, including 31 returnees from the 2002-03 squad, were selected: men's basketball (5), women's basketball (5), men's indoor track and field (17), women's indoor track and field (17), men's swimming and diving (17) and women's swimming and diving (17). There are also nine three-time honorees on the team.

As it did last season, UW-Milwaukee once again led all Horizon League members with 15 selections. Wright State placed 11, while Butler and UW-Green Bay notched 10 apiece. UIC (8), Youngstown State (8), Cleveland State (7), Detroit (5) and Loyola (4) were also represented.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The men's basketball team features five fresh new faces this season. The team is led by a pair of UW-Green Bay selections in Kevin Hughes and Matt Rhode. UIC's Jovan Stefanov, Loyola's Jason Telford and Youngstown State's Adam Baumann were also selected to the squad.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The women's basketball team features four All-League selections in Cleveland State's Ashley Schrock and Shannon Sword, UW-Green Bay's Abby Scharlow and UW-Milwaukee's Maria Viall. Viall, the two-time Horizon League Player of the Year, returns to the squad for the third time, while Schrock returns from last season.

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
One three-time and five two-time Academic All-League selections lead the men's indoor track and field team: Butler's Brad Bennett returns for the third-time, while teammate Chris King, Detroit's Andras Lukacs, UW-Milwaukee's Nick Bruskewitz, Bryan Hassamer and Adam Hobler are all returning members from last season.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
The women's indoor track and field team features six returnees from 2002-03 and two selections from 2001-02, including: Butler's Rholonda Ash, Mary Reeves and Jill Snyder, Detroit's Andrea Karpala and Jane Peterman, Loyola's Kristin Brzeski, UW-Milwaukee's Katie Seep and Youngstown State's Emily Schnitkey.

MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
Seven members of the men's swimming and diving team are repeat selections, including Cleveland State's Aidan McLaughlin and Nial McGrane, UW-Milwaukee's Josh Baseheart and Wright State's Todd Benanzer, all of whom are three-time honorees. Cleveland State's Chris Jones, UW-Milwaukee's Andy Davis and Wright State's Dejan Antolic return from last year's squad.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
The women's swimming and diving team features three three-time All-Academic selections in Wright State's Julie Coghlan and Jackie Dexter, along with UW-Milwaukee's Sarah Caldwell. Butler's Jesse Levknecht, UW-Green Bay's April Burant, Amy Christopherson and Sarah Ciganek, Wright State's Milda Zilinskaite and Youngstown State's Lena Arens and Kalyn Leveto return to the squad from last season.
