INDIANAPOLIS -- Brett Williams will join the Horizon League staff on Monday, Sept. 9, as assistant director of communications. Williams, from Fishers, Ind., is a graduate of Michigan State University, where she played softball for four years and was recognized as All-Big Ten Distinguished Scholar-Athlete.

Williams comes to the Horizon League after a six-month communications internship at the Indiana Sports Corporation, Indianapolis’s sports commission.

“Brett came to us highly recommended by both athletic department personnel at Michigan State and those with whom she worked at the Indiana Sports Corp,” said Commissioner Jon LeCrone. “She will be an outstanding addition to our communications team and during the interview process, she impressed me greatly with her knowledge and passion for intercollegiate athletics.”

Williams’ primary duties will be in support of Director of Communications Craig Hammel in communications efforts for the Horizon League Olympic sports.

While compiling a 3.8 grade point average in public relations, making the Dean’s List each semester and playing softball at Michigan State, Williams also served as an intern in the MSU sports information office. At the Indiana Sports Corp, she assisted in media relations for various NCAA championship events, launched a new website, wrote and designed a weekly e-newsletter, managed all social media content and wrote and edited press releases for a variety of events.

“Brett quickly evolved from an intern to a valuable, contributing staff member,” said John Dedman, vice president of Communications for the Sports Corp. “She is certain to have a positive impact on the Horizon League.”
