Horizon League Announces Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week (Feb 7)
The Horizon League has announced Youngstown State’s Chad Zallow Men’s Runner of the Week and Oakland’s Brandon Davis as Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Chad Zallow/Youngstown State/Sophomore/hurdles/Warre, Ohio.
Sophomore Chad Zallow was awarded the winner of the 2017 Dr. Philip Edwards Award as the outstanding male competitor at this past weekend's Armory Track Invitational meet. Zallow finished 1st/38 in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.61 seconds. He also set the school record and USATF Under-19 record in the 42-inch (106.7 cm) hurdles.
This is the second Runner of the Week honor that Lucas has received this season.
Brandon Davis/Oakland/Sophomore/Jumps/Cilo, Mich.
At the YSU National Invite, Oakland Sophomore Brandon Davis Broke his own school record in long jump for the second time this season. Davis competed amongst 18 participants and finished with a distance of 7.20m. Davis was the only athlete throughout the entire meet to finish above 7.00m.
This is the first Field Athlete of the Week honor that Davis has received this season.
The Horizon League have announced Youngstown State’s Keishawnna Burts and Abby Jones as Women’s Runner and Field Athlete of the Week.
Keishawnna Burts/Youngstown State/Junior/Sprints/Akron Ohio
Burts posted a season-best time in the 200m dash to win by 0.24 seconds. She finished 1st/73 with a time of 25.19. In the 400m dash, Burts finished amongst the top three with a time of 57.95 seconds, out of 55 participants. The Ohio native was also part of the 4x400m relay team that earned second (ran leadoff).
This is the first Runner of the Week honor that Burts has received this season.
Abby Jones/Youngstown State/Sophomore/Jumps/Franklin, Pa.
Abby Jones put on an exceptional performance in the YSU National Invite, competing in two field events for the Penguins. Jones finished 2nd/31 in the high jump event with a distance of 1.65m. Jones was also able to register a distance of 4.38m in the long jump.
This is the first Field Athlete of the Week honor that Jones has received this season.
