Horizon League Announces Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week (Jan 31)

The Horizon League has announced Youngstown State’s Brendon Lucas as Men’s Runner of the Week and UIC’s Shaun Wollenweber as Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.

Brendon Lucas/Youngstown State/Freshman/Sprints/Boardman, OH.

First year Brendon Lucas put on a stellar performance at the PSU National Invitational. With a time of 48.68 seconds, Lucas finished first out of 20 runners in the 400 dash. Lucas also had a strong showing in the  200m dash with a time of 21.98 seconds, placing 2nd/16.

This is the first Runner of the Week honor that Lucas has received this season.

Shaun Wollenweber/UIC/Junior/Jumps/Plano, Ill.

Shaun Wollenweber competed in the Mike Lints Alumni Open, where he placed 2nd/18 in the men’s triple jump. The junior recorded a personal best of 15.25m. This mark now erases the previous school record that has been held since 1978. Wollenweber also competed in the long jump, finishing 5th/35 with a mark of 6.66 meters.

This is the first Field Athlete of the Week honor that Wollenweber has received this season

The Horizon League have announced Oakland’s Ashley Burr as Women’s Runner of the Week and Detroit Mercy’s Lynda Brundige as Women’s Filed Athlete of the Week.

Ashley Burr/Oakland/Senior/Distance/Midland, Mich.

Ashley Burr secured a first place finish in the 3000M event at the SVSU Jet's Pizza Invitational. Burr finished 1st/35 in the entire invite, with a time of 9.54.85. The senior finished with a dominant lead, helping Oakland’s team to an overall second place finish at SVSU Fieldhouse on Saturday.

This is the first Runner of the Week honor that Burr has received this season.

Lynda Brundgide/Detroit Mercy/Senior/Field/Buffalo, N.Y.

Brundige won the triple jump with a 11.73m clearance at the Mike Lints Alumni Open. This mark is also the 3rd best in UDM history. The freshman’s performance was the best of 20 participants. Additionally, Brundige competed in the long jump, finishing in the top 10 with a mark of 5.09m.
