Horizon League Announces Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week (04/018)

The Horizon League has announced Oakland’s Bryce Stroede as Men’s Runner of the Week and Valparaiso’s Drew McKissick Jr. as Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.

Bryce Stroede / Oakland / Senior / Distance / Horton, Mich.

Bryce Stroede finished first in the 800 meter event with a time of 1:52.01. The senior collected 10 points for the black and gold in the Golden Grizzly Invite this past weekend. With a total of 22 participants competing in the event, Stroede registered the top finish by 1.28 seconds. Stroede’s win helped lead Oakland to a second-place finish amongst eight teams.

This is the first Runner of the Week honor that Stroede has received this season.

Drew McKissick Jr. / Valparaiso / Sophomore / Field / Naperville Ill.

McKissick tossed the javelin 52.51 meters to receive third-place finish in the event for Valparaiso this weekend at the Benedictine University Relays. The sophomore collected six points for the Crusaders and helped them finish in the top half of 28 teams. Out of 53 opponents, McKissick was one of four players to record a distance over 50 meters.

This is the first Field Athlete of the Week honor that McKissick has received this season.

The Horizon League has announced Oakland’s Ashley Burr as Women’s Runner of the Week and Milwaukee's Alisha Harper as Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.

Ashley Burr / Oakland /Senior / Distance / Midland Mich.

Senior Ashley Burr placed first in the 5000 meter event this past weekend at the Golden Grizzly Invite, recording one of Oakland’s nine first-place victories.  Burr cruised through the event, leading the way the entire race and finishing nearly 50 seconds in front of second place. With a time of 18:06.53, Burr was the top finisher amongst seven competitors.

This is the first Runner of the Week honor that Burr has received this season.

Alisha Harper / Milwaukee / Junior / Field / Brookfield, Wis.

Alisha Harper recorded a personal record jump of 5.92 meters this past weekend at the Benedictine University Relays, resulting in a first-place finish in the long jump event. Harper was 1st/48 and now ranks fourth in all time program history for the Panthers. That mark now leads the league by nearly a full foot.    This is the first Field Athlete of the Week honor that Harper has received this season.
