Indianapolis-- The Horizon League announced the men's tennis All-League awards at the pre-championship banquet held on April 22. Voting was conducted by the League's head coaches. The 2005 Horizon League Men's and Women's Tennis Championships will be held April 23-24 at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

Five members from the 2004 First and Second All-League Teams return, while seven new faces make their All-Horizon League debut. All six men's teams were represented between the two teams.

UIC junior Ivan Kovalev has burst onto the scene as he has claimed Player of the Year honors in his first Horizon League campaign. He is currently 18-8 on the season at No. 1 singles and swept the competition in League play as he went undefeated with a mark of 5-0. Kovalev is tied for second place on the UIC all-time single-season wins list.

Wright State freshman Lance Koetter earned Newcomer of the Year honors after posting a 10-10 (2-2 League) record at No. 2 singles in his first season of Horizon League play. Jason Suscha of Butler was named Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive year. This season, he led the Bulldogs to a 13-12 record, including a 5-0 mark in League competition, as Butler will enter the championship as the top seed. The Bulldogs are in search of their fourth straight championship title, which would mark their seventh in eight years.

Joining Kovalev on the First Team are Butler's James Low and Andy Bartish, UW-Green Bay's Tyler Dorn, Wright State's Quincy Jones and Youngstown State's Tom Barth. Low and Dorn advance from the 2004 Second Team, while Bartish, Jones, Barth and Kovalev are making their All-Horizon League debut.

Overall, Butler (Low, Bartish and Parker Ross) posted the most players on the team with three, while UIC (Kovalev and Paul Glendenning), UW-Green Bay (Dorn and Jarett Cascino), Wright State (Jones and Koetter) and Cleveland State (Eric Winn and Jay Tee) all boasted two players each. Youngstown State is represented on the First Team by Barth.
