INDIANAPOLIS -- Horizon League Athletic Directors unanimously have approved the purchase of equipment that will bring high definition production to all Horizon League Network telecasts and instant replay capability to each of the League’s men’s and women’s basketball venues.
The League’s Indianapolis-based production partner, WebStream Productions, will assist on-campus personnel with the selection and implementation of the new gear.
“This is a major step forward as we seek to remain on the cutting edge of web-based telecasts with the Horizon League Network,” said Commissioner Jon LeCrone. “The new instant replay system will benefit our officials, teams, coaches and fans. We want to ensure that we are doing all that is technologically possible regarding important game situations.“
Since its first-to-market beginning in 2006, the Horizon League Network has streamed nearly 3,000 League events and conference championships in all 19 of its sports. In 2011-12, more than a quarter million unique visitors from more than 140 countries logged on to horizonleague.com to watch league competition, studio highlight shows, student-athlete profiles and other campus events.
“We are gratified that the athletic directors recognize the value of the Horizon League Network and are willing to make this investment,” said WebStream Productions founder and CEO John Servizzi. “We are proud of our role in making the Horizon League a recognized leader in intercollegiate athletics video streaming.”
In addition to web casts available at horizonleague.com, the Horizon League will also offer a free mobile app that users of smart phones can download to watch Horizon League competition.
