INDIANAPOLIS -- Building on its successful debut in 2011-12, the Horizon League, in partnership with WebStream Productions, has announced upgrades to the 2012-13 iteration of its “Horizon League Network Live” mobile application. The Horizon League is the only NCAA Division I athletics conference in the country to offer its entire live video collection via a mobile application.

Beginning this week, fans who purchased the app last year on their iOS devices will receive a free upgrade. Fans downloading the app for the first time will also be able to do so for free. Horizon League basketball games will be streamed in HD this year, while a focus on video quality and reliability will offer a noticeably better experience for both mobile and desktop viewers.

For the second straight year, the app allows fans to watch any game carried live on the Horizon League Network along with on-demand features and highlights during the 2012-13 athletics season. Sixteen of the 18 Horizon League basketball programs will have non-conference home games available, while all Horizon League conference basketball games will be carried live both on HLN Live and HorizonLeague.com.

“We are excited and proud to enable Horizon League fans the ability to follow our basketball action in high quality on their mobile phones for free,” said Commissioner Jon LeCrone. “This is yet another advancement that distinguishes the Horizon League as a technology leader in intercollegiate athletics.”

The Horizon League Network has long been a pioneer in online streaming of live events. In its first six years, HLN has carried more than 2,500 live events with TV-quality production, attracting viewership from more than 140 countries.

“Delivering HLN to fans wherever they are is essential to the continued growth of the network,” said WebStream Productions President & CEO John Servizzi. “Offering the app free of charge will enable even more fans to experience Horizon League sports. HLN LIVE is now faster and takes advantage of the great new features on iOS devices.”

Android users can watch live event streaming through the web browser on compatible phones, thanks to continued optimization of the mobile browsing experience.

In 2011-12, HLN and HorizonLeague.com experienced unprecedented growth as more than 300,000 unique visitors across 149 countries/territories watched HLN coverage. The network set a new single-day record for viewership, with over 27,500 viewers on Jan. 15.

HLN Live provides that same quality to handheld devices, further extending the League’s global reach. Fans are able to watch live video of men’s and women’s basketball, swimming and diving, baseball, softball and more, on-demand content will also allow those who miss a game to watch highlights at a later time. All 15 remaining conference championships will have live and/or on-demand content.

The app is available in the iTunes App Store now.
