INDIANAPOLIS - Loyola University Chicago has claimed the top seed in the 2008 U.S. Army Horizon League Women's Soccer Championship. The winner of the league's nine-team tournament earns an automatic berth into the 64-team NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.

Loyola (12-8-0) finished the regular season with a 7-1-0 League record. Milwaukee (15-2-2) also finished 7-1-0 in conference play, but the Ramblers win the tie-breaker by way of their 1-0 victory over the Panthers on Oct. 3.

Wright State (9-8-1), which finished its regular season schedule last weekend, captured the No. 3 seed and a quarterfinal home match by going 4-3-1 in League action. Butler (10-10-0) and Detroit (8-8-1), both 4-4-0 in conference matches, will be the No. 4 and 5 seeds, respectively. BU defeated UDM, 3-2, on Oct. 5.

The Horizon League Women's Soccer Championship will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 29, when No. 9 Youngstown State (4-13-1, 0-7-1) travels to No. 8 Valparaiso (10-6-2, 2-5-1). Loyola will then host the winner of that contest on Sunday, Nov. 2.

Other quarterfinal action will pit No. 7 Green Bay (5-6-4, 2-4-2) at No. 2 Milwaukee, No. 6 Cleveland State (8-9-1, 3-4-1) at No. 3 Wright State and No. 5 Detroit at No. 4 Butler. All of those matches will be played on Nov. 2.

Loyola has won the last two Horizon League championships. Junior midfielder Cynthia Morote-Ariza, who finished the regular season second in the Horizon League with 43 points, has been named tournament most valuable player in each of the last two seasons.
