Indianapolis-- The Horizon League announced the women's tennis All-League awards at the pre-championship banquet held on April 22. Voting was conducted by the League's head coaches. The 2005 Horizon League Men's and Women's Tennis Championships will be held April 23-24 at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

Three members of the First Team return from the 2004 First Team, while the remaining three have advanced from the 2004 Second Team. Butler's Alaina Griffin is appearing on her third consecutive First Team, while teammate Tayo Bailey and Cleveland State's Sarah Galon are earning their second consecutive First Team spots.

Galon has been named the Player of the Year after earning Newcomer of the Year honors last season. Galon owns a record of 17-12 at No. 1 singles and a mark of 6-1 in League play. At No. 1 doubles, Galon is 16-10 and 6-1 in League competition. She leads the Vikings in singles wins with 17 and has won nine of her last 12 singles matches.

UIC's Grace Gill-Morlis has earned Newcomer of the Year accolades. She is 14-9 overall and boasts a perfect 7-0 League record at No. 5 singles. Gill-Morlis also holds a No. 3 doubles record of 13-10 to go along with a 7-0 mark in Horizon League play.

This season's Coach of the Year honors are shared by Shannon Tully of UIC and Michele Grim of Youngstown State. Tully is in her fourth season and receives the honor for the second time in three years. She has guided the Flames to an overall record of 10-10 and a League mark of 7-0. UIC will be in search of its ninth consecutive Horizon League title and its seventh straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Grim is completing her seventh season with the Penguins. This year she led Youngstown State to a 6-1 League record, landing in the No. 2 position entering the championship.

UIC (Iris Jaklin, Corey Steven, Molly Smith and Melanie Humphrey) and Butler (Griffin, Bailey, Michelle Hawes and Shaden Dowiatt) each placed four student-athletes on the All-Horizon League Teams. Youngstown State (Karen Najbert and Whitney Thomas) followed with two, while UW-Green Bay (Heather Harding), Wright State (Tiffani Foster) and Cleveland State (Galon) were represented by one apiece.
