INDIANAPOLIS -- Horizon League Commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Monday (Feb. 11) the hiring of Michael R. Conlin as the League's new Coordinator of Men's Basketball Officials.

Conlin succeeds John W. Adams, who was named the NCAA National Coordinator of Men's Basketball Officiating in October. Adams has served as coordinator of officials for the Horizon League for the last nine years.

"I am delighted that Mike will be joining the Horizon League team. He will do an outstanding job building on the foundation established by John Adams," LeCrone said. "This is a win-win-win transition, and we are excited about the future of men's basketball officiating in the Horizon League."

In his new capacity, Conlin will be responsible for the administration and development of the Horizon League's men's basketball officiating program, assigning officials for all home games of the League's ten member institutions.

The Lansing, Mich., native has held the same position with the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) since 1999. His duties with the MCCAA include identifying, recruiting and training officials for the organization, as well as evaluating officials and coordinating assignments for games involving the group's 19 institutions and the MCCAA postseason tournament.

"The Horizon League Men's Basketball Officiating program has been in great hands over the last nine years with John Adams as its coordinator and I am honored to have been selected to succeed him," Conlin said. "I am excited about my new role and look forward to working with Commissioner LeCrone and the rest of the Horizon League staff, athletic directors and men's basketball coaches and officials."

Conlin boasts more than two decades of officiating experience, calling basketball games for the Big Ten Conference since 1999 and the Horizon League since 2002. He was selected to work games in the 2007 Horizon League Championship, as well as the last 16 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NCAA Division II) tournaments and the 1999 Mid-American Conference Tournament.

In addition, Conlin's résumé includes 23 years in the Collegiate Baseball Umpire Alliance---a coalition of four Division I circuits including the Horizon League---and eight seasons as a football official for the Mid-American Conference. He worked the 2005 MAC Football Championship game, as well as Division II playoff contests in 1993 and 1997.

On the diamond, Conlin is a member of the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee and a presenter at the NCAA Baseball Clinic. He has called games at the NCAA Regionals each year since 2000, NCAA Super Regional contests in each of the last five seasons, and the 2005 College World Series.

Outside the officiating circles, Conlin is the recreation supervisor for the Delta Township Parks, Recreation and Cemeteries Department. His duties include creating and monitoring public relations campaigns associated with all department programs, as well as hiring, training and evaluating full-time and seasonal staff members and independent contractors.

Conlin earned his bachelor of applied arts degree from Central Michigan University in 1988.
