INDIANAPOLIS – Cleveland State’s Karen Barrientos paced the Vikings to a win at the Lock Haven Invitational this past weekend, earning her Horizon League Cross Country Female Runner of the Week honors. Lucas Rhed was the top finisher for IUPUI at the RedHawk Rumble on Saturday, September 23, running a new personal best. Rhed is the Horizon League Male Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Karen Barrientos led Cleveland State to its first-ever team title under current head coach Joe Jaketic, as the Vikings placed first as a team at the Lock Haven Invitational. Barrientos led all Vikings with a sixth place overall finish, posting a 6K time of 22:14. Her time is the second fastest 6K time under Jaketic, and was just four seconds shy of tying her personal-best on the 6K course.

MALE RUNNER OF THE WEEK | LUCAS RHED | IUPUI | REDSHIRT FRESHMAN | CHESTERTON, IND.
Lucas Rhed was IUPUI’s top finisher at the RedHawk Rumble on Saturday, turning in an 8K time of 27:39.8 to place 22nd overall. Despite the heat, the redshirt freshman ran a new personal best by 16 seconds.
