The Detroit men and Butler women sustained their leads after the first day of action to claim the 2007 Horizon League Golf Championships at the Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio.
The Detroit men were led by individual medalist David Byrne who shot a 75 in the final round to finish with an even 216 for the championship. Byrne was announced as the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year by the League coaches at a banquet following play. Detroit's Mark Sommerfeld also picked up award honors for the Titans, being named the Horizon League Player of the Year. Detroit's head coach, Mark Engel, was also named the Horizon League Men's Coach of the Year.
The UW-Green Bay men finished 16 shots behind Detroit with a 910. Travis Meyer was the top finisher for the Phoenix, tying for fourth-place with a 226.
The Butler women claimed the League championship for the third-straight season, shooting a 1002 as a team. Butler's Paige McCracken (246), Niki Garden (247) and Lauren Showers (247) claimed the top three individual spots for the championship. Garden was also named the Horizon League Player of the Year. Bulldogs head coach Steve Jones was honored as the Horizon League Coach of the Year for the third season in a row.
Detroit's Rachel McHenry was named the women's Newcomer of the Year. For the championship, McHenry tied for 11th place overall, posting a 256.
